We had a great visit from Ray Robson in Gainesville on Oct 3 and 4. On Oct 3, Ray played a simul at the grand opening of the Westside Park Scholastic Chess Club He defeated 25 of our top scholastic players. Then on Oct 4, Ray visited the UF Gator Chess Club He gave a lecture and then beat everybody in blitz games for the rest of the evening. See some pictures below.

School chess clubs: The principals of all of the area schools should have received information regarding setting up chess clubs at your school. If your school does not have a chess club, talk to your principal about starting one. It doesn't take much to set up a club, the hardest part is to find a teacher interested enough to stay around one day after school. Call George Pyne 373-9110 if you have any questions.
Chess calendar: The website also has a calendar of the relevant dates we know about for the fall/spring grand prix, the UF tournaments, the north regional, state and national tournaments. Please reserve these dates on your calendar.
Stay tuned for more information. Let us know if you have any questions.

Led by George Pyne, the Alachua County Scholastic Chess Association (ACSCA) has promoted chess for the children of Gainesville for many years. Major events each year include the ACSCA Grand Prix, Westside Park chess and the yearly Chess Challenge.
